Glossary


The following glossary lists and defines some terms as they are used on our Web site.

Answer checking: Verification of answers that appear in teacher material. For all mathematics, chemistry, and physics texts, answers are checked a minimum of three times during the editing process.

Error: An inaccurate or incorrect textual or visual element that can hinder understanding and learning.

Fact-checking: The thorough review of text to verify that all factual information is correct. All facts are verified and substantiated by two or more sources.

Proofreading: The reading of a manuscript or printed books to find and fix corrections in grammar, spelling or syntax.

Reprint: A subsequent printing of a previously published book. In textbook publishing, reprints offer publishers the ability to make minor changes or corrections in text or art while preserving the integrity of the book as originally published.
